WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT ROLE WITH SD SEALANTS & COSMETIC REPAIRS?

I’m a Trainee Accountant, based in the Chepstow head office.

WHEN DID YOU JOIN THE COMPANY?

I joined SD Sealants in May 2014, two weeks after completing my final university exams.

HOW DID YOU JOIN SD SEALANTS?

After graduating I was offered a place to join the company. Initially I joined SD working in the credit control department but at the end of the year I was offered the chance to join the accountancy team. For me that was a great opportunity because I graduated in accounting and finance.

WHAT ARE THE KEY ROLES OF YOUR JOB?

The key parts of my job include managing our day-to-day purchase, payment and balance ledgers and helping to produce our monthly financial reports. Being a trainee accountant it’s my job to work closely with my Accountant Manager to make sure our finances are properly recorded. It’s also part of my job to work alongside the credit control department to offer support and lend a hand when necessary to chase missing payments.

WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING ASPECT OF YOUR JOB?

For me the most challenging aspect is the work load when the month end accounts are being prepared. We have to work extremely hard to get everything together in a short space of times ready for them to be analysed to gauge our monthly performance as a business. Thankfully I get a lot of support from the Accountant Manager who’s always on hand to provide assistance.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR JOB?

I just love being able to work, I’m really grateful that I was able to get a job related to my degree so quickly after graduating. Working alongside my Accountant Manager means I’ve always got the support I need to continue learning and developing and there are plenty of opportunities to progress through the company too.
