The SD teams-backed pairing head to Belgium sitting second in the GT4 Pro-Am Championship points, just three points behind the leading Nissan of Kelvin Fletcher and Martin Plowman.
With just three races left this season – with Brands Hatch and Donington Park after Spa – the race for the title is getting tight, and Nick and Scott know they have to push on and rack up the points.
Last time out at Silverstone was a testing weekend, with the new Mercedes-AMG suffering from a mysterious power issue. Regardless, Nick and Scott still battled to fourth place in class. Since that round, the Team Parker Racing crew has worked closely with AMG, and hopes to have the issue resolved just in time for British GT’s annual European trip.
Nick says:
“Spa can be a long way to go, but it’s so worth it. It’s a legendary track that’s fast and flowing and standing on the podium there means just that little bit more as it’s such a special place. It’s like motorsport’s equivalent of playing at Wembley Stadium.
“I think the Mercedes-AMG will be solid at Spa and there’s been a lot of work in the background to make sure we don’t have the same issues that troubled us at Silverstone. I know the team is on it, and I know AMG is on it, so I’m confident we’ll have a really strong package this weekend to go and get right in the mix.”
Scott says:
“Spa was the first place we drove the Mercedes-AMG when we ran it unrestricted in a test and it’s a great machine for the track. Spa is mostly about medium- to high-speed corners, which really play to the AMG’s strengths. Plus the car is very good on its tyres during longer stints.
“I think it will be a straight fight between us, the Nissans and the McLarens this weekend for who has the strongest car, but it’s great to be in the reckoning even before the weekend. Silverstone was tough, but if you look at our race pace it was very good. Nick is driving very consistently and has very little drop-off in his stint times, which is essential for a two-hour race.
“It’s getting down to crunch time in the championship and if we want to win this thing we have to take our chances and start driving things home.”
